Our clinical staff at Speech Pathology Services treats patients at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, The Southeastern Lifestyle Center for Fitness and Rehabilitation, Public Schools of Robeson County, preschool programs, home health agencies, and at our outpatient clinic on Oakridge Boulevard.

Jennifer Stephenson

Jennifer Inman Stephenson is the owner and President of Speech Pathology Services of Robeson, Inc. Jennifer is a native of Fairmont NC and attended East Carolina University where she received her undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders and a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology. Jennifer and her husband Ken bought SPS in 2004 from Linda A. Smith after moving back from Raleigh to be closer to home and family. SPS has been a staple in the medical community for over 33 years.


Along with day to day operations at SPS, Jennifer is also the Director of Clinical Compliance. She oversees documentation as well as compliance with federal and state regulations for speech therapy services.


Jennifer has gained a wealth of knowledge through the years through specialized training in several areas. These include, but are not limited to: Pediatric Feeding/Swallowing and Assessment, Dysphagia and Modified Barium Swallows, Voice, Rythmic Phonetics, Articulation and Language, IEP/CECAS,  Cognitive-Based Therapy, Tracheostomy  Training, Mechanical Ventilation, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Lindamood-Bell Phoneme Sequencing Training (LIPS). Jennifer is a certified VitalStim Therapy Provider as well. Jennifer also conducts speech and language workshops for local pediatricians, daycare providers, preschools, and parent groups for awareness and education on speech and language concerns.


Jennifer has gained experience working with children and adults birth through geriatrics in settings here at SPS. Jen is dedicated to providing personalized therapy programs enabling her patients to achieve communication and swallowing goals through a variety of therapeutic approaches.


Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband Ken and their 3 boys. She is a soccer, surf, scout, as well as a dirt-bike mom. Jennifer is a member of First Presbyterian Church on Chestnut St. in Lumberton. She is also a Past President of the Junior Service League as well as a Sustainer. Jennifer was a past Gala co-chair of the Southeastern Regional Medical Center Gala and has served on that committee for several years. She is an active member of the NC Speech-Language Hearing Association (NCSHLA) and serves on the Professional Affairs Committee.  Jennifer is also an active (ASHA) American Speech-Language Hearing Association member. Jennifer is licensed by the board of NC and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

Lexie Swagler

OTD, OTR/L

Lexie is originally from Ohio, where she completed a Bachelor's degree at Walsh University in Psychology: Pre-Occupational Therapy in 2017. She completed her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in St. Augustine Florida, graduating in 2020. Lexie loves working with children and their families, and is excited to begin her career as part of the SBTB team. Lexie loves sports, and is always rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. In her spare time, Lexie enjoys being outdoors/at the beach, trying new foods/eating at her favorite restaurants, spending time with her family and friends, and loving on her dogs Tesla and Rowan!

​Lori Leggett

Office Manager

Lori Leggett is our office Manager at Speech By the Beach. Lori has been working in the speech environment for the past 15 years.  She enjoys getting to know and interacting with the children and the families we serve.  The most important things to Lori are her faith and her family. In her free time, Lori loves relaxing on the beach with her husband, Mark. They have two children, Brandon and Chase.

Cailin Michael

M. S. CCC-SLP

Cailin is a speech-language pathologist completing her clinical fellowship at Speech by the Beach. Cailin graduated from Ohio University with her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Communication Studies in 2019. She completed her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Ohio University in 2021. She moved to South Carolina from southern Ohio in August to begin working at Speech by the Beach. Cailin’s passion is working with the pediatric population and approaching therapy with a family focused approach. In her free time, Cailin enjoys exploring her new home and spending time with her dogs, Fitz and Oscar.

Katie Short

Devon Layton

Speech-Language Pathologist 

Devon is a speech-language pathologist completing her clinical fellowship at Speech by the Beach. Devon graduated from Columbia College with her bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2018. After getting her bachelors she worked for 2 years at Speech by the Beach as a speech-pathologist assistant before returning back to complete her masters. She completed her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Emerson College in 2021. She moved to South Carolina, from Pennsylvania, in 2015 and has never looked back. Devon has a love for children and helping them succeed. In her spare time, she loves to sit on the beach, shop, cuddle her dog, and hang out with friends and family.

Katie Faust

M.A., CCC-SLP

Katie is a clinical fellow speech-language pathologist at Speech By The Beach. She is originally from New York but moved to South Carolina in 2019. Katie graduated from St. Joseph’s College in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications and a minor in Psychology. In 2019, she completed her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Long Island University. Katie is dedicated in providing an individualized therapeutic approach to all her clients.  She is passionate about working with children and helping them maximize their communication skills. On the weekends, she loves to spend time with her friends and family. She also enjoys spending time outdoors and walking her dog Oscar!

Lauren Britney Thompson

M.A, CCC-SLP

Britney Thompson is a South Carolina native from Fort Mill. Britney is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in NC and SC. She holds a Certification of Clinical Competence from ASHA. She received her Bachelor of Art degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Columbia College and her Master of Art degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from South Carolina State University. Britney is an avid Carolina Panthers fan and enjoys watching football. Outside of work she enjoys spending time at the beach, and time with family and friends.

Jennifer McKevitt

M.A., CCC-SLP

Jennifer McKevitt MA CCC-SLP is a Raleigh, NC native. She graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (Go Heels!) in 1999 majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Linguistics. She then attended Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, graduating in 2001 with a Masters in Speech-Language Hearing.  Her previous work experiences in New Jersey and Pennsylvania include providing speech/language and feeding/swallowing evaluations and treatment in day programs for developmentally delayed adults, skilled nursing centers, public schools K-12, home-based 0-3 early intervention programs, developmentally delayed preschool classrooms, pediatric nursing facilities, and special needs kindergarten classroom. She has specialized training in childhood apraxia of speech, pediatric feeding disorders/treatment, and AAC. She is Hanen certified in parent coaching programs It Takes Two To Talk and More Than Words. Jennifer is passionate about coaching caregivers to enhance their child’s communication skills in the natural environment. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children, Bella and Connor, spending time with her friends, enjoying the beach, and playing with her cats.
